How to add excerpts

    I’ve read tons of topics on this but I’m new to WordPress and all I want to do is add an except to my front page. Right now it shows the entire contact. I would like a few sentences to show followed by “Read More”. The websites I’ve read mention changing the theme template and adding addition code? Some mention switch from the content to “the excerpt” tag?!? I really enjoy this theme and I just need a simple way to automatically add an excerpt.
