How to add custom 404 error page in WordPress?

    I want to create a fancy custom 404 error page for my Website because i want to my visitors stick with my website content, can anybody know ho to make custom 404 error page in WordPress?

    If your theme already has a 404.php you can simply edit that to suit your needs. If not, it’s a simple as creating a 404.php (why not copy index.php to start with a template?).

    So, WordPress will treat error pages if you have 404.php automatically? Like creating an author.php template?

    I have noticed that if you type in a non-existent link within a wordpress installation, it just simply displays the homepage on that link.

    Yes it should.

    It’s currently showing the homepage as a fallback because you don’t have a 404 in place.
