   I'd like to display Google AdSense *below* my sidebar (the way I've designed my sidebar, it would just look funny if I put it directly into the sidebar - you can see that on my blog: http://jpsblog.org/blog/). Where in my index template should I insert my AdSense code?

   Is it at all possible to put *any* content (ads, photos, banners, etc) in the open space below the sidebar?

   Not given your current theme's page structure. The theme would need to be edited a fair bit to add an extra container that would hold both the menu bar and any additional content below.

   Nothing that's specific to that particular design/theme. In terms of general XHTML/CSS resources, http://www.w3schools.com is pretty good.
