I would like to be able to display a single image on my home-page to welcome my visitors. Can someone walk me through the process?

Thanks kmessinger!

Now if you were to visit my site, you will see the image I selected. It works. However, there are now two other things that pop up– one is “Categories” and the second is “edit this entry”.
How do I clean up my home-page to just feature the chosen image and the links on the left?
