Support » Plugin: BP Profile Search » How to add a dynamic Drop Down Menu?

  • hey,

i would like to know if there is a way to add a dynamic drop down menu.
for example, i have two movies in the first menu and the castings
of both movies in the second drop down menu. now when i select one of
the movies in the first menu, the cast from this movie can be selected
in the second menu (the actors from the movie, which is not selected,
    won’t be shown).

    like this:

    menu 1
    – winter’s tale
    – bad neighbours

    menu 2
    – colin farrell
    – russell crowe
    – seth rogen
    – zac efron

situation, when selected a movie in menu 1:

    menu 1:
    – bad neighbours

    menu 2 (selectable items):
    -seth rogen
    -zac efron

i hope you understand what i mean and can help me out.
this is one big thing i have to realize for my project.

one other thing is, that when you enter a date in your profile field
(3 drop downs appear: one for day, one for month and one for year)
and put that field into the search options and click on range, there
are just two text boxes in the front end. maybe this should be fixed.

    thanks!

    Hi domi,

As far as I know, the Buddypress conditional profile field plugin can create a conditional drop down field, but it’s not compatible with BP Profile Search.

Re your second question, the two text boxes for the Age Range search are explained in the documentation.

    okay thank you.

are you planning to add that feature in the near future? this would
make your plugin a very powerful tool. well more, than it is already 🙂

the plugin you mentioned has not been updated since it came out.
i dont know if i should really install it.

Yes, I plan to add that feature, but probably not in the near future because I’ve little available time at the moment.

Buddypress conditional profile field is not updated but it works with the latest BuddyPress versions. Unfortunately the conditional fields it creates don’t work with BP Profile Search.

    Hello,

I too would like to see this feature. I was wondering if you could direct me to which files in the core of the plugin I can modify to try and make this feature work for my website right now…

    Thanks

    Hello encorewebplus,

Probably the best solution is not to modify BP Profile Search at all.

You could write a custom BuddyPress profile field type that suits your needs, then make it compatible with BP Profile Search using this documentation:

Hello, I would gladly pay to see this functionality.

This plugin came out in August 2014:
    http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-conditional-profile-fields-buddypress-plugin/.

    It works great.

I heard mixed reviews about the other plugin referenced above .

    Thank you trialsph,

I’ll look into that new plugin to see how an integration with BP Profile Search is possible.
