How should I create a 1 col/3 col layout?

My website is maiamarketing.com.

I’d like to create a landing page similar to the landing page on this site: http://groupmindmedia.com/. Basically, there’s the one graphic with text to the left, and 3 columns spanned below it.

What’s the easiest way to create a layout like this? Is there a nice tool for doing layouts for pages or is html best?

I’m a bit new to customization, so sorry if the questions are off base.
