I think it’s pinged right away. That’s why it takes longer to post with pings enabled than it does with them disabled.

jonlandrum, I’ve posted even more new fresh content, and the posts are still not in google.

I’ve just tested an existing MU blog that is in a subdirectory. I copied/pasted 2 posts that were on the main blog that I’m having trouble getting indexed. The posts from the MU blog are already indexed. Any ideas as to why the blog on the main site are not being indexed (even though at least 11 new, original items have been posted within the last 24 hours)? Does the actual WordPress system use a different pinging method than the MU blogs?
No. They both use the same system, and both are set to ping Ping-o-Matic by default.

Thanks for your reply. I had started another thread, because I think I know why my wp blog wasn’t being indexed. I had stripped a lot of the wp code and replaced it with my own db connections and just called the post info (title, permalink, etc) from my own query. I wanted to know if there is something that I deleted from the index.php or single.php pages that caused the pages to not be indexed. I know that when I was using a stripped down version of wp, it was being pinged according to my stats log, but it just wasn’t being indexed.
