How is Thesis if you don't know CSS? (3 posts)

I'm considering the Thesis theme as I shop for premium themes. I'm looking for a new look for my blog. I also will be developing new sites of my own soon besides my current one.

I actually have simple needs. I need a theme that has two or three columns...and the big thing is that I need a custom header. My site is a hybrid website and blog, so I need to be able to put my mailing list opt-in form in the sidebar, along with social media links, etc. I need a CMS so that is why WordPress.org was my first choice a while back. Eventually, I'll have products for sale, videos, etc.

My current theme is breaking up and it was not ever my first choice any way (it's a free theme).

I'm not a big coder and don't know much about CSS. So, I wondered about Thesis--what do you think of it?

I'd most likely hire someone (graphic designer) to do a custom header for me anyway...

Thesis appeals to me 'cause of the free theme upgrades, support, forums, etc. I know it helps tremendously to know CSS to take advantage of all the customization power. I also know that Thesis has hooks to help you to customize it.

Just wondered if the learning curve to customize it for my uses will be too steep for me? I'm pretty good at following tutorials and hacking my way through WordPress.org :)

    Any advice appreciated...

I really like thesis and have used it on client sites quite a bit
there is a great menu in the dashboard to do many thesis customizations without messing with code
there is also an option to use custom style sheets, etc

you may want to look into the Athualpa theme - it's free and VERY customizable with a really easy menu to change many things
