• hello there,
i just want to understand how my WP multisite network is being discovered. i have some users i dont trust on my network right now. i wonder how they got to discover it. i have even told the community im building the network for that it is ready, when im already getting ‘suspicious’ users registering for accounts and blogs.

moreover, i want the network to be restricted to members of my community in Nigeria. please can someone put me through.

People search for WordPress in general, find it, and attempt to create accounts, all the time. Single site, multisite, whatever.

    It’s what it is.

Install Akismet, as well as Cookies for Comments (which can be tweaked to block registrations), AND this: http://www.darcynorman.net/2009/05/20/stopping-spamblog-registration-in-wordpress-multiuser/

There’s really no way to do that unless you moderate all signups.

you say there is really no way i can restrict membership to a particular geographical location, but i was just thinking of using .htaccess rules to block users by ip blocks. is that going to be a bad idea? please enlighten me. thanks.

Oh you CAN but you don’t want to. It’s a bad idea, since what happens the second one of your users visits Russia on vacation? You’ve blocked them. And what happens when a non-local user gets wise and uses an onionTOR to get a new IP? They’re in!

    Don’t waste the time.
