   This is a "how to" question, I have not done this yet.

   I want to install WP on Hostgator, but I do not yet have control of the domain that the site will run under. So HG will let you access your site using a url like: http://IP/~username/ I would think I could install WP using this.

   I want to install and do all the setup now, while issues with the domain get worked out and then when the domain is available point its DNS to HG.

   How can I change the WP install to use the domain once it is availabe, from the setup that used http://IP/~username/

   The actual location of the install would not change, just change http://IP/~username/ to http://www.domain-name.com.

   Thanks!

   I would install wordPress and set everything up, then once you are ready to go live and the domain is all set, you can do a search and replace in your database and replace the http://IP/~username/ with http://www.domain-name.com.

   I usually do this via phpMyAdmin, but there's also a plugin option.

   I did it exactly as Christine did, precisely with Hostgator, two years ago. Worked like a breeze.
