how fix changed tags missing trailing slash? (2 posts)

    I moved a site w permalink structure /%postname%/. The old site urls point to the new site urls (same urls / permalink structure), but I had cleaned up my tags on the old site, merging the old ones w new.

    After much effort I have redirected all the old tags to the new tags but I have encountered many 404's for old tag url requests that are missing the trailing slash, most of which I have already fixed as urls with a trailing slash. i.e.

    /tag/frank-sinatra/ 301 --> /tag/singers/ = 200 Success
    /tag/frank-sinatra = 404 Not Found

    The old tags are being 404'd before a trailing slash can be forced to the end of the url (by WordPress)so they can be redirected to the new tags.

    Is there a solution (hopefully plugin-less)for this other than creating individual 301's for each old tag url missing the trailing slash? thx

    One can use patterns (CondPattern) to seek out a url that does not have a closing slash and add one when pattern is met (RewriteRule)

    These rules should precede the permalink rules or caching rules as they are server rules not WP rules.
