How does a beginner get to a place to change permissions? (3 posts)

I am very new to this coding and learning a little more each day, to give a reference as to what I am asking... I know how to start a car. Put key in ignition, turn key...
But finding where or how to change permissions is not in any of the hundreds of posts I have been reading. Lots about scary security stuff and 777 or 666. But God help me no details to lead this lemming to the cliff.

My issue is when I enter code in the WP edit page (HTML) and update. The changes go away. Simple things like <p style="line-height: 20px;"></p> or even <p>M</p> to move text to a lower line. The topics all reference PERMISSION but not how to find it or change it.
This 60+ learner is trying to create tvdmcl.org and most of this stuff does not come with training wheels. You should of watched me figure what a backtick was.

File permissions can only be changed using the command line of an FTP program,

This is a wakthrough if you are using filezilla to upload files via FTP.

  3. Hi Walt, we all start at the bottom of the ladder at some point.

Check out Filezilla and FTP Clients « WordPress Codex.

For permissions, all folders should be 755, files 644. You're using GoDaddy as a web host; they can be problematic sometimes. If you still have saving/uploading problems, you will need to ask GoDaddy to change things on their end.
