How do you test a wordpress site on a new server before changing DNS?

I’m pretty sure you can do it.

Talk to your web hosting company.

You may have to access your site like this:

http://www.yourwebsite.com/mysterious-stuff-hosting-company-tells-you-to-type

rather than:

http://www.yourwebsite.com/the-way-you-normally-would-want-it

it actually might be on the front, like:

http://mysterious-webhosting-content-stuff.yourwebsitedomain.com

I’m 90% sure this can be done. But the people to speak to are the webhosting people.

I’m not sure if iluvpinkerton asked this question already, but I have a similar question. How can I edit a wordpress theme and view it offline before uploading to host. I’m new to webmastering and wordpress and there’s a lot of info out there, but I haven’t been able to find exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks
