• I want to prepare several posts – future date them – and then let WP publish them at the time I have scheduled. How do I do this?

I don’t want to have to email to the blog – too complicated for me – I just want to save drafts and have them publish when scheduled. I’m wondering if that is the function of “edit post timestamp”?
    Thanks in advance

Exactly. Check that box, set the date, and click publish. The post will appear at that time in the future.

    Thanks 🙂

There’s some kind of problem though, if you’re linking to another blog in a future-dated post. The pings/trackbacks don’t go through. Just FYI.

question … what about the update services … like pinging ping-o-matic? do future dated posts not utilize “update services”?

Prior to 2.1, they definitely did not, by default. In fact, I think the pings went at publish, regardless of the time set. There were/are some plugins for that associated with (I think) skippy’s wp-cron.

I thought I read that 2.1 pinged ’em properly, but I personally haven’t tested it and I can’t find where I read it. :-\
