you need to select a theme with two columns. See this link:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tags/two-columns

Your theme can be changed to two columns; You need to go to:

Dashboard >> Appearance >> Theme Options

    Hope this helps.

for columns within the content of a page, consider using a plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=content+column&sort=

    Use the 960 Grid system.

@xgamer791 Plugin or 960 Grid is completely unnecessary with Responsive. First because Responsive has several different page layout such as

and several more, you can use any of them and create a two column page in seconds. Second thing is Responsive's very own fluid grid system called Shell:

If you need additional assistance please visit our dedicated (FREE) support forum at http://themeid.com/forum

Also make sure that your Theme is updated as well, you're using 1.3.6 and latest version is 1.4.9.

Plugins, Grid and new Theme will not be needed, Responsive will handle all that ;)

    Thanks for using Responsive!

Im a wordpress newbie myself but I think your colums depends on your theme. You have to know how many tcolums your theme supports. I was looking for a thre colums theme and almost assumed there was noithing like that till i found how to search for wordpress.org for themes. If your theme can support the kind of layout you need maybe you need to change it

Please see http://themeid.com/demo/responsive and click and demo all available Page Layouts under the Page Templates. Currently Theme supports 2 columns as described in Theme description, but you can change that via the grid http://themeid.com/themes/shell-grid/ to three if you wish :)
