I made a BOO-BOO when installing and put my site url as http://www.portmacquarieswapmeet.com.au/wp. Hence any pages I make are not accessable unless the /wp is added. I changed my General settings back but the same still happens. As the site is new I would like to uninstall WP and start again with it in the root dir.(Rather than learn how to redirect) How can I do it. (PS I am a grey haired novice at this.)

If you are not worried about losing data, just delete the WordPress files you uploaded and then delete all of the WordPress tables from your database-- hopefully you have access to PhpMyAdmin. Re-upload the WordPress files and try again.
apljdi is correct. If you want to start from scratch, just nuke all of the WordPress files, and drop all tables in the WordPress DB.
