How do I truncate a post? (3 posts)

    I've been looking around for clear direction on how to truncate my blog posts. I know that I can choose the number of post that appears on my page but if it's possible to truncate, which would allow less scrolling I'd rather that. Can this be don't without having to install another plugin or is a plugin the way to go?

    two possibilities:

    - use the 'more-tag' in writing your posts

    - edit the template (index.php ?) and exchange the_content(); with the_excerpt();

    Thank you alchymth. I tried both options but none seems to work for me. Nothing changed on my posts, not sure why it didn't work. Thanks the same!
