How do i set up a test site? (4 posts)

I'm wanting to run a separate test version of my site so i can play with new plugins, or themes without breaking my live site.

Whats the easiest way to go about doing this?

I copied my entire site to a new folder and pointed a subdomain at it, but I can't log in as it takes me to my main site every time I try to log into the test site.

    so I have TrulySimple.com <-- main site
    and i have test.trulysimple.com <-- test site

but if i try to log into the dashboard of the test site it just redirects me to my main site.

whats the best way to tackle this?

    thanks so much

    Ben

    Thanks

I got it setup at test.trulysimple.com with a new database and imported all of the content.

My questions is now whats the best way to mirror the site so all the plugins are setup the same etc.

then once i make changes and am happy with them, whats the best way to migrate back over to the production site?

    Ben

You can either set up all of the plugins manually (which is what I tend to do). Or you can restore an amended database backup from one site to another.
