How do I set it up like your Demo?

How do I set it up like your Demo?
Is there a Step by step tutorial?
Are there video tutorials?

I would like to set it up so my main page has a default page with sidebar and in the content area:
A Location Map,
Listings,
A Submit Your Event Button leading to the Event Submission Page.

Under Settings/Reading what do I set it to? Posts? or Static Page?
If static page then which one would work best?

To start with at first of course there are no events so the Location Map will show nothing right but it should show the google world map and its just grey/blank now. Is there another variable other than “future” for the location shortcode? [locations_map width=600 height=400 scope=”future”]that would let the map be visible by default?
