How do you separate each post with 10px so the background can show inbetween each post?

Please give the url and theme of your site so we can give ‘made to measure’ advice.

Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS troubleshooting. Or use whatever developer tool is available in your web browser.

And do not edit the parent theme. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.
