I have wp newsman lite. How do I remove "Powered by WPNewsman" on the frontend form?

Hi, there is no way to remove the "Powered by WPNewsman" text in the Lite version. It is automatically removed in the Pro version of the plugin.

If you mean line 1412 of core.php then I sincerely hope you are mistaken. Just changing that line will do it won't it? I haven't tried myself.

If it's in the plugin then having that turned on by default forcing the user to pay to disable it would violate item #10 of the plugin guidelines.

    10. The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a "powered by" link) without explicitly asking the user's permission. Any such options in the plugin must default to NOT show the link.

Emphasis mine. Do you plan to update the plugin and correct that? Or is that coming from somewhere else such as your servers (if this plugin is SaaS).

There are no external links on the public site. This is a simple text without the link. And yes you can edit it in the line 1412 of core.php. Is this against item #10 of the plugin guidelines?

It may be. You'd (or I'll do it since I already send that D/L a ton of mail...) need to verify with the plugin team at plugins [at] wordpress.org to make sure.

The case with links is easier and well defined by #10 but just putting that "Powered by WPNewsman" text (no link) is iffy to me because you made it clear that if the user pays for the "pro" version then that text becomes optional.

Or the user can just delete that text. I haven't looked yet but if it's being outputted to something filterable then creating another plugin to delete that text shouldn't be hard to do at all. Or the user can just edit the core.php file in the plugin and do it that way.

Note: I'm not saying you should not get credit for your work but the user should be able to just remove that in any GPL'ed software.

Telling the user that that is done in the "pro" version isn't exactly correct.

So, I think it is correct to say that in the Lite version of WPNewsman the user can edit the line 1412 of core.php to remove the "Powered by WPNewsman" text since WPnewsman is GPL'ed software and the Pro version just does not display this text.

Thank you so much for the responses. Yeah it look difficult searching this out in php, since my php knowledge is a little hazy. Especially when they create a variable that controls this externally in another file and I'm unaware of the terminology. I probably won't touch this, because I don't have the pro version. I only have the lite version. I don't want to go against any copyright laws here. Thanks again G-Lock and Jan, your the best.
