How do I pick a plugin?

This may be a dumb question, but I’ve searched and not found an answer! 🙂

I’m not an inexperienced WP user, but I want a nicer subscribe to me sorta plugin. So I go to the plugins page, and search for “subscribe”. You can imagine there’s 18 pages of subescribe plugins.

How do I choose? Some have 3 stars, some have 5 stars, but the 3 star one may have 5000 users, and the 5 star plugin may only have 2.

Personally, I want to start with the one that everyone uses. the one with 250,000 users.

Is there a way to find *that* one?

The reason I’m not using the offered one with Atahualpa, is I want it more customisable… I don’t want subscribe to comments for example.
