   hi i am all very new to wordpress, everything is set up as a blogging site, i understand with editing it doesnt have to be like that.

   i want my first page to be like a holding page like new website coming soon. but when i add new pages and publish everything it is already linked without me doing nothing? she there anyone that can help me?

   You could develop the site in a sub-folder and move it to the main folder when it is ready.

   You can install plugin if you like that will have website under construction as default page until you are ready.

   thanks for your input, im a real beginner here, getting my head round the theory of how it all works, its just trying to execute it lol

   sorry but how do i distinguish which page on wordpress relates to a file on my ftp?

   so for example my homepage on wordpress- how do i find this in ftp to edit?

   WordPress is not like template system is a script(a program) to create a blog/website is based on php which is a server language and you will not find any pages on server as they are created dynamically by the program and sent to browser in html form.

   With wordpress you log in admin panel work from there each page or post not through ftp.
