How do I know if I have the requirements? (3 posts)

    Hello,
I need to host my own wordpress blog. I've read the requirements and installed Apache successfully. When I go to http://localhost/ I can see an index.html page that I created. I used Synaptic Package Manager to download the PHP and MySQL requirements-- but it doesn't seem to have worked.

When I run http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php it just opens in gedit and does NOT give me a password. There's gotta be something obvious that I'm missing. I don't know if there's a better way to install PHP and MySQL? It all seems perplexing.

Don't bother with WP until you have Apache/PHP/MySQL up and ready.

The directions/guides for setting up Apache/PHP/MySQL on your flavor of *nix are out there, find them and save yourself some headaches ;')
