How do I keep unauthorized people from putting articles on my site (5 posts)

For months people I don't know are posting unrelated content on my site. I've tried changing the password but they're still getting in. How do I stop them. They're showing up as users in the admin section and the articles as post. It's all spam; obviously some kind of link building scam.

Please tell me how to stop them

    thanks

You have registration open and allow password reset (http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_the_automatic_emailer).

Turn off registration: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_Screen - you don't need registration on to create accounts as an admin.

Delete the accounts of the people you don't know (don't just change the password).

@tcbarrett , the whole registration open thing....isn't the default setting when you have registration open to have those people as subscribers (meaning they can't post).

    To original poster...

close registrations (you can always add users yourself manually).
    delete those users
turning off password reset, I don't see it. If you don't have an user account, how can you password reset?

Password reset is on by default if registration is open. You can disable it with a short piece of code:
