How do I install? (15 posts)

My computer runs on Mac OS X. I download WordPress, and a folder came up, holding the readme, index.php, etc. I clicked the index.php, and it opened Adobe GoLive. Once it loaded, all the came up was a blank page and a blue box with ?php in it. Can someone walk me throught the installation? It would help a lot. Thanks,
    Kaylin

Yeah, of course :) This is what I got:

Unzip the package in an empty directory

Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details

    Save the file as wp-config.php

    Upload everything.

Launch /wp-admin/install.php in your browser. This should setup the tables needed for your blog. If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again. If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can gather.

Note the password given to you.

The install script should then send you to the login page. Sign in with the username admin and the password generated during the installation. You can then click on 'Profile' to change the password.

I'm working on dowloading mySQL right now. I am so confused tho! LOL.

Do NOT use GoLive - it causes a million more problems than you need.

Use Notepad, BBEdit or some other plain text editor, and a nice basic ftp client.

    GoLive ? GoDead more like...

LOL thanks. I trusted it because I love Adobe...hmmm...I'll try Notepad.

Gosh. So many problems. I feel like I can't do this alone! haha. Do you have a Mac? Because I don't have Notepad. Is that similar to TextEdit?

God, now mySQL won't install! What the heck?

  8. For Mac, use SubEthaEdit as a text editor (replacement for GoLive). As for MySQL, I can't help you there, sorry.

  10. Sorry, http://www.codingmonkeys.de/subethaedit/

It really is a nice (and free) app. You'll like it.

Ughh....'System isn't compatible'. I give up. This is too much work.

  15. Oh, it isn't compatible with 10.1. If you're running v10.3, then use the download presented. If you're running 10.2, then use the old versions: http://www.codingmonkeys.de/subethaedit/old.html

You need to slow down and be more observant. Take a breather.
