    okay that sounds good. I will do that. So you select the child theme as a template not the main template? Seems like you should have both activated but I do not see how. I will revise the new child css with not css in it yet.

    Oh wait a second, no, the child theme is a THEME not a template. But it looks like that's how you have it working. What it does is pull all the CSS from the parent theme -- that's the purpose of the @import line in the child CSS file.

    yes now it seems to be using the child theme but not the parent. I deleted all the css off the child css that is on the parent css. I think I am missing something to get it to look at the parent theme?

    so then I activated the parent theme. So do I just manually update child theme with the new code? How do you tell it is reading the child theme. I am a little confused how they work together. I read the child themes css should override the parent. When I look at the editor I can only see the parent css when the parent template is selected. I do not see it at the bottom either with the other Style.css? And I see the child css when the child template is choosen.

    No, you do not want the parent theme active. The child theme reads the parent CSS code using the @import line. What is not showing up?

    You can tell which one is active by looking at the rendered HTML in the browser via View Source -- look for the link to the CSS file -- right now it is :

    href='http://www.avisualadvantage.net/argent/wp-content/themes/publish/style.css?ver=3.4.2'

    That's the parent theme. Switch back to the child.

    This is all I have on my child theme now is:
    /*
    Theme Name: Publish Child
    Description: Child theme for publish
    Author: Your name here
    Template: publish
    */

    @import url("../publish/style.css");

    Okay, that's perfect. So go ahead and activate the child theme.

    Okay, now it's fine. The changes that are not showing on the child theme are things that were made in the theme options -- like custom background and logo. So you'll need to re-do those in the child theme. Sorry about having to do it over, but this really is the best way to get this set up right. You'd really hate to lose everything when the theme is updated.

    Read what I posted. There is nothing wrong with how it is working.

    you are right. okay I will try that. At least I already did it once :) As long as everything is working the way it should be, but still seems the parent them should be bringing in some css.

    I am saying this because of the menu is so messed up.

    No, the menu should be fine when you put the bigger logo in -- I was looking at that too - I have the parent in one browser window (unrefreshed from earlier) and the child in the other, so I'm comparing them.

    If that does not fix the menu, you can fix it by adding this to your new child theme style.css file -- add it underneath what is already in the file:

    .main-navigation {
       width: 100%;
    }

    You're welcome. You got through a lot -- good job!

    Going back to your original questions, you can look back to my first reply and find the code to two of the changes you asked about. Put that code in the child theme style.css file.

    And to hide the date line of text, add this:

    .entry-meta {
        display: none;
    }

    Also, if you are not using it, Firebug is an REALLY great tool for working with CSS (and other things) -- so I'd suggest you check it out.

    I gotta get to bed pretty soon...I expect you're not going to get there soon :( . But I'll check back in the am. I'm in California so we're in the same time zone, I think (at least your profile says Seattle - I used to live there from 1999 - 2005 -- loved it in many ways but a bit dark, cold and wet for too long -- LOL!)

    Thank you WPyogi. You answered all my questions. I am feeling very lucky that I got my project fast tracked with all my questions answered in one evening!!!! I am just working on it now as I had an appointment I had to run for. So looks like I am working another evening.

    I love CA. I miss the sun :) Yes I am in Seattle for now. Love to migrate to CA though!

    If you are interested in contract work please send me the type of work you are interested in. You definitely know your stuff !!! I love to work with other IT professionals. You can email me at webmaster@avisualadvantage.net if you just are not busy enough.
    Thanks! Lauren
