Support » Networking WordPress » how do I get this setup

  • I need a site with my domain name. inside this site i need to subsites 1.wordpress 2.dev when I go the main site all it will is a link to the other two sites. The reason I want it this way is to learn both wordpress and php together. the main site will go online when I am able to combine the two sites. giving me the one wordpress site I want. I think the problem might lie in setting up the mysql db. I have been trying to setup three dbs,but after some trial runs I am thinking maybe I should setup as mydomain/wordpress and my domain/dev but when I move my stuff. What will happen is I will build stuff in dev. move to wordpress then when it works in wordpress move it to http://www.my domain.com any advise on the best way to do this.

What do you want as your end goal?

If all you want is three blogs:
    1) Main site
    2) Development
    3) wordpress code fu

    then yeah, MultiSite’s perfect 🙂

But you want to make a test site (dev) and when it’s ready move that to wordpress, and when THAT’S done, move that to main … You’re doing a lot of unnecessary steps, and you DON’T want MultiSite (moving Multisite is currently a PITA). Just make a regular WordPress site, preferably in a subfolder, and play there. When you’re done, you can either move it to the main folder (preferable if you’re going to want to run MultiSite later) or leave it there and use the old run as main-folder from inside a subfolder trick 🙂
