• After nearly an hour of searching… can’t quite seem to find a post that addresses this issue… sorry if I missed it.

I am learning WordPress with a bitnami “localhost” installation on my PC.

Being a noobie… I made the mistake of making changes to the 2011 Parent Theme… not realizing that those changes affect all themes… and I now realize that I should have gone the “child theme” route.

I have started a “child theme tutorial on line” and I need a fresh install of the 2011 theme to do this course. I’ve deleted all themes but 2013 and renamed it “2013 Theme_old. Then I installed a fresh download of 2011 but when i activate and view it… the changes I made to the original version of the Parent theme are still there.

Is there a way to remove those changes and get back to the original parent theme… or will I have to uninstall WordPress (aarrggghhh) and do a fresh install.

    Please advise… many thanks 🙂

  • 1. Try moving all but the fresh donwload out of the themes directory.

    2. Have you made changes using the wordpress style editor?
Some of these may be stored in the database.

    3. Have you installed any caching plugin?

    4. Clear your browser cache.

Hi Peter… thanks for your quick reply!

    As to your recommendations.

Step 1: did it… the fresh download of default 2012 theme still shows some of my changes (I have deleted some of the changes I made through the dashboard)

step 2: haven’t used style editor that I can recall. I tried to find how to get to the database… but don’t know where to find and edit it. If you can direct me I would appreciate it.

step 3: no caching plugin installed.

step 4: As you suggested I cleared browser cache before installing and activating 2012 theme. But it didn’t give me the original unchanged version.

Thanks for your advice. Again if you can tell me how to get to and edit the database… that would be great!
