[resolved] How do I get P2 unordered list with bullets? (9 posts)

    I'd like to display unordered lists in P2 with 'bullets'. What CSS is overriding the default disc display, and what's the best upgrade safe way to override that (if possible) and make UL elements always show with the disc prefix?

    Imho there are no bullets in CSS. See http://w3schools.com/css/css_list.asp for list styles (square, disc, circle)

    However, there may be different solutions to your question :
    * using a list-style-image
    * using the pseudo class "before" like this : ul li:before {content:'•';} (write "& b u l l ;" without the spaces)

    see also http://www.evotech.net/blog/2007/05/controlling-list-item-bullets-with-css/ and http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/CSS_pseudo_elements.asp

    Thanks veganist. The default display for list-style is the disc, which is what I'm calling bullets.

    P2 overrides this default somewhere, and I can't seem to find it. That's what I'm asking about here, specific to P2: how to restore the default disc list-style for unordered lists.

    Ah ok. I see. I dont know this theme, do you have a URL ?

    Otherwise, consider using Firebug with Firefox to find out what and where a CSS modifies the appearance of your lists.

    If you are not firm with this kind of tool, try searching in P2's stylesheet for "list-style".

    Also, some themes do a reset in the beginning like so
    * {margin: 0; padding: 0;}
    which resets the margin of lists so bullets become simply "invisible". In that case you should add a margin to every UL via CSS.

    Hi ryanschwartz,
    What version of P2 are you using? Have you modified the style.css file?

    Unordered lists posts or pages should show with bullets in P2, so if you aren't seeing them it's probably a CSS issue. Here's a sample HTML formatting page on the P2 Demo site: http://p2demo.wordpress.com/2008/09/27/layout-test/3/

    Hi Lance, I'm using version 1.1.6.2 and I've not modified style.css at all. FWIW, I'm seeing the same behavior (no bullets) at the sample page http://wp-themes.com/p2/ but the link you provided on p2demo.wordpress.com DOES display the bullets. I see the same results in Chrome for Mac, Safari for Mac, and IE 8 on PC.

    I'm going to guess this is a new thing since previously we were seeing the bullets and after an upgrade apparently they disappeared.

    OK, I see the issue now. We have fixed it in the WordPress.com version, and the fix will be released in the next version for the WordPress.org directory (probably in the next two weeks or so).

    If you want to fix it now for your site, you can find this CSS block in style.css:

    #main ul#postlist .postcontent ul, #main ul#postlist .postcontent ol,
    #main ul#postlist .commentlist .commentcontent ul, #main ul#postlist .commentlist .commentcontent ol {
    	border: none;
    	border-width: none;
    	border-style: none;
    	border-top-style: none;
    	border-top-width: none;
    	padding-top: 0;
    }

    and add overflow: visible; to it.
