  • I assume you are referencing a self-hosted WordPress site. If so, when you installed WordPress, you would have created an Administrator level account – or, if using a script provided by Hostgator, such an account may have been created for you.

That account has no connection to your account at WordPress.org. The /wp-login page will have a forgot password option under the username and password boxes. Assuming you have access to the email address you registered when WordPress was installed, you can reset the password using that option.

If you do not have access to that account, then you will need to reset the password manually via the control panel options in the Hostgator account. For more information on that process, please review the following: http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

On the wp-login page there is a Forgot? link – if you enter your email address there do you get a result?

Your blog details at Hostgator are separate from any account you may have at wordpress.com if you have one.
