Hi there! I am a newbie to website design and wordpress, but am really interested in setting up my webcomic.

I have spend hours and hours over the last couple of days learning the ropes, and could really do with some help.

I have wordpress 3.1 and the comicpress theme. The problem I have at the moment is how to actually edit my site to make it look like how I want it to?

Where is it I actually go to edit my website? Is it appearance>editor? Do I literally just edit my comicpress theme in there to set up my site? Make the sidebar with my hompage, about and contact options? Or do I use an FTP? If so is there any good tutorials on how to use FTPs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I really want to make this work, and learn how to get my site looking like I want it to.

    Sam

    Is it appearance>editor?

If you want to make changes to your theme's CSS or templates files, yes.

esmi thank you very much for your reply.

What I want to do is change almost all of how my site looks. A particular problem I am having is how to make the pages I want appear in the sidebar. So I would want a link for the homepage, one to access archives of my comic, another for info etc. So they appear at the left of my page like:

    Home
    Archives
    About
    Contact

I would like my new strip to be on the front page with "next," "previous" and "first" and "last" options.

I realise this could take a lot of learning and time, but after many hours of looking, I still don't know where to look!

Would I use widgets? Edit the code in the appearance>editor?

I can find how to change the header and understand all that as it is in an easy to find place - appearance>header. But finding where I go to make my links and put them in the sidebar is proving troublesome :(. Help is appreciated so so much!!!

At the moment I am looking to set up my site's aesthetics and get everything in place, so I think I am concentrating on pages right now.

I'm using the theme comicpress which provides some handy add-ons and features for uploading my comic posts.

A real bother I am having is understanding where I go to edit the code to get my website set up and looking how I want it. Do I just go to appearance>editor? In the editor by editing the stylesheet and templates can I completely control how my website runs and looks?

I really appreciate you helping me with my newbie questions. Answering my questions in the previous paragraph will help so much, and let me know if I am looking in the right place or not.

Do I just go to appearance>editor?

    Yes

In the editor by editing the stylesheet and templates can I completely control how my website runs and looks?

Yes. You can also very quickly bring your site down. So always ensure that you make a backup copy of any file before changing it.
