How do I create a product specific template page within a blog?

My blog has a pretty standard theme, at least it appears that way. I would like to promote a product on its own landing page. I figured if I make a copy of single.php and make the necessary changes like remove the side bars and some of the other content that would divert attention away from the product, then I should be able to create a post about the product and all kinds of other fancy things to describe it. I name the copy of the single.php file “product_info.php” but now how do I assign this post to display in this template and not in the default single.php template?

Better yet, if anyone knows of a better way to do this I would appreciate your input.
