   For example...

   http://www.mysite.com/?p=124

   to:

   http://www.mysite.com/title-of-the-post

   for seo purposes, any help would be very greatful!

   Go to your Dashboard and under Settings >> Permalinks you will find some defaults that you can use that are prettier than the "p=###" style.

   As to SEO purposes, you can take a look at this plugin (for example): http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

   Cheers!

   I have all in one seo pack installed but it doesnt seem to change the /?p business, only the title in the meta tag, not the url..

   I'll have a closer look...
