• Sorry to be asking such a dumb question but i just cant figure it out.
I have looked at the .css file, and as far as i know all it does it define colors ect correct ?
What i want to do with the standard theme is move the menu colum down a notch, so the top header extends all the way over (and btw made the site only 800 wide). Then i want to exchange the header with my own header which concists of little collection of images, hereunder also some links i want working…
If somebody could point me to the correct file to edit to change the layout of the site i would appriciate it alot.. first time using this seemingly awsome system …

  • Welcome to WordPress. If you are using the default template then all the positioning (layout) is also carried out in wp-layout.css.

Thanks i will take a look.
I was wondering if its possible to show the blog, and links (menu) on another page, thus i can create my layout myself, and just have the information show in another page ?

Okay i have been looking it over and i must admit its much more simple than i thought hehe 😀 awsome ! 😀
    But i have another question.
If my header isnt just an image. What if i want some horisontal links below my header.. how do i accomplish that ?
The header i have in mind is designed as 1 big image, and then cut into smaller peices, which need to be aligned perfectly to look good 😀

Sounds like you actually want to edit the index.php page in your blog root. Unless you are using multiple styles and a style switcher, that would probably be the easiest way.
That’s what I initially did and evewrything went perfect, then I recently added styles and a switcher and had to go back and find my changes to index.php and undo most of them, since they interfered with some of the different styles.

Well i only want to use the 1 style .. nothing more
And i just want the header to be added and perhaps also a new footer.
But i will see what i can work out.. perhaps i can make some new graphics and stuff to make things easier on myself hehe 😀
Never be afraid of trying new thing 😀

Okay i have almost gotten the site i want. Only a few kinks here and there left propably becaues i know almost nothing about CSS.
Anyways i want the site to be like this site. This means that i dont want the site to resize everything just because the browser window is resized. Say if you have my site open, and start dragging your browser window smaller everything gets messed up, and start going haywire… However this doesn thappen on the wordpress site. How do i make the site a specific width and then thats that ?

I could be wrong, but I think (if I understand correctly what you are looking for) you just need to specify the width of the #rap. Then it would always be that width and you would just get extra background on the edges.

    Not quite oriecat.

Anon if you want the support here to be a bit more proactive – if we could see a url. It would really help us help you.

Sorry i thought i posted the URL.. my bad.
Anyways i fixed it now, since i found a nice theme for the site, which im gonna customise to save me some time. Then i can do the job from scratch on the next version.
Thx for all the help though, i really appriciate it. I learned alot from messing about, and i just started to love CSS. Didnt know css could do half this stuff.. always just thought it was for formatting text hehe 😀
Thx a bunch, and here is the url for my site, which i’m not quite done customising yet.

Not quite, as in, “that’s a start but it takes more than that” or as in “damn girl! do you ever know what you’re talking about?!” 🙂
yeah… so anyway… that footer isn’t looking too good… some of the links are displaying outside of the menu boxes too. In Firefox anyway.
