Do you have Adobe Photoshop?
If you have Adobe Photoshop, grab the Photoshop template for the WordPress Default Theme (aka “Kubrick”) here: http://binarybonsai.com/files/kubrick126.zip
Then, edit the header image area to your liking, save it for the web (choose “save for web”), and upload the new kubrickheader.jpg file.
I take it you mean the graphic in the header and not the layout? If so, and you just quickly want to hack it for now (you’ll probably need to tweak your own image file), you’ll need to modify the header file (should be /wp-content/themes/default/header.php), around line 28:
#header { background: url(“<?php bloginfo(‘stylesheet_directory’); ?>/images/kubrickheader.jpg”) no-repeat bottom center; }
replace “kubrickheader.jpg” with the name of the image file you want to use.
Thank you so much for all the replies!
I replaced the “kubrickheader.jpg” with the name of the image file I wanted to use, but the size it’s different.
Is there any way to adjust the template for the size of my graphic?
Or will it be easier to make a graphic that exactly mathches the size of “kubrickheader.jpg”?
I would prefer the size of my own graphic, becasue it takes up less space at the top.
Appreciate your help.
Yup; your header size is not matching well.
adriana, i’ve discovered a super easy way to change your kubrick header:
first of all, download the kubrick header macmanx told you above.
open the .psd file inside
then, follow the remaining instruction at http://www.janicek.com/archives/2005/02/23/rotating-image-banner-for-kubrick/
and you’re on the way.
remember to follow the instructions exactly as it is, otherwise, there will be some colours not matching with your blog. (i’m still trying to figure out why)
Good Luck!
For newer versions (1.5 +) of wordpress, you will find that a simple replacement of the kubrickheader.jpg with your own graphic is not enough.
The solution to this is to delete the functions.php file from the server entirely and leave the header-img.php file on the server. This works.
Then, you can create a graphic and name it kubrickheader.jpg. Make a graphic header using the info at http://andy.wordpress.com/2005/09/16/kubrick-headers-part-one
this file for creating a graphic but you will need Photoshop if you want an image that matches the krubick template exactly.
Watch this video to see how I made a very nice matching header graphic with rounded corners using the psd file from the andy.wordpress blog:
http://www.siteoodles.com/tutorials/wordpress-kubrick-template.html
Note: You may want to remove the title that lays across the graphic. To do this see”Hiding the Header Text” on the page at http://codex.wordpress.org/Designing_Headers#Changing_the_Header_Image
Hope this helps,
Honor at http://www.siteoodles.com
If that really works…. (and I couldn’t say, I wouldn’t give the “default theme” room anywhere in my world), maybe you need to edit that all into codex somewhere….
