• I’ve always used the “uncategoried” category and felt it was time to give my users a more catgorized layout. However, after adding 15 or so categories, I tried to edit a post to include one of the new categories and it changed the slug from “blog-post” to “blog-post-2”. The problem is I can’t edit it back to it’s original slug, it simply will not save when I try to edit it. Is it possible to change post categories in archives? If so, how do I do it, witout having it change the slugs? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • That sounds really odd. Changing the category shouldn’t change the slug. So you went to Manage, Posts, then Edit, changed the checkbox and Save, and it somehow affected the slug?

Yes, that’s exactly what I did. I changed the “uncategoried” category to “main” so I have that one checked and a new category checked. Originally when I clicked save, I hit refresh on the post, I got a “sorry, not found…” error. So I went back to the archive page and sure enough, the slug has a “2” on it. So I thought I could just edit the slut and it would work. I keep trying to edit the slug and it times out every single time I try to save it. But I can’t figure out why it added a “2” to it.

Difinately strange. I just tried to edit another post and it was fine. However, the first post still has a “2” on it that I cannot change because a save timeout. I guess, I will keep on and see what happens. Thanks
