How do I change my forum username?

I need to change my user name ASAP at WP – I used part of my URL and now the WP forum is showing up on search engines. Please help!

You can’t change your login name but you can edit your profile and modify what’s displayed.

Visit http://wordpress.org/support/profile/govalleykids and on the right should be an edit link. Fill in your first and last name, then use the Display name as drop down to change it.

Thanks so much Jan – However, I still want to change my display name as it is posted as part of URL. It is posting as smithn25 but on the user profile page, “GO…” (I don’t want the search engines to find it again!

Not much we can do about that, that’s not something we can change. Also these public forums are replicated by other sites so changing it here won’t necessarily accomplish what you want.

The only recourse is to create a new forum account and abandon using your old one. Just in case and before you ask, we don’t edit out posts either. 😉

Short answer? Create meaningful content yourself on your own site and the Magical Search Engine Fairies™ will find that and rank it higher instead.
