How do I change my facebook thumbnail, title, and description for my website (7 posts)

    Hi all,

The website that I am designing (http://wordmurder.com/), when it is posted to facebook has no thumbnail beside it, no title, and no description. It only has the link address, and a caption above it that says coming soon, and a blank spot where a picture is. When a post (fake right now) is added into facebook, it looks ok, its only when the link to the homepage (http://wordmurder.com/) is added.

Any suggestions for what to do? Or for a plugin to use?

    Thanks!

You need to add the Open Graph tags to your pages, which tell Facebook what to use to populate the post, such as image, description, title, etc.

You can do this yourself, using some instructions like these, or there are plugins that do this, such as this one.

I have tried this, and have tried some other widgets for adding open graph tags to my site, but with no luck. Again, when posts are displayed, no problem...but the actual link to the homepage (http://wordmurder.com/) when put into a feed on Facebook still says coming soon with no picture, description, etc. Does it take time to recognize it?

It can sometimes take some time, but Facebook will also cache results. So if you tried to share your page before you had those tags in place, Facebook might be using the cached results from that, instead of the new page.

There are different opinions on how to get Facebook to flush their cache. I've used this method before with success, but you can Google for others if that doesn't work.
