Someone is spamming me using the “ping” feature.

I have it shut down, but I prefer to find a way to stop them. All the websites they’re using ends in .com.cc or something like that.

Is there a way to ban them or make it harder for them to spam my blog?

  • Try a plugin search for ‘ban’.

You could enable an anti-spam plugin like Akismet or Bad Behavior (both can be used together). You could also add their IPs or websites to the comment blacklist in Settings/Discussion. Or, you could use more specific ban plugins like vtxyzzy mentioned.

Thank you both. I have activated Akismet and one other one. I will go add the part of their websites that is the same (the URLS are different, the ends are the same. Then if that doesn’t work, I’ll go for vtxyzzy’s suggestion.

They got me— less than 24 hours after I put the blog up. EGADS!

Since they all head websites that ended the same way, I was able to use Settings/Discussion and ban the offender.

However with the newest version of WordPress, they got through. I’ll try some of the other suggestions.
