I can't figure out how to add the "subscribe me" field to my blog, where readers can have updates sent to their email. Does anyone know how to do this? Any advice greatly appreciated!

I recommend hooking up a Feedburner account for this:
You can then install the Feedsmith plug-in to replace WordPress's built-in RSS feed (the Feedburner one is much better) and set up Feedburner's blog-to-email service as well. You will get the code to add to your website from Feedburner once you set this up.
