[resolved] How come WP finds my photo avatar? (4 posts)

I just installed a new copy of WordPress as a sub-folder on a server that uses another copy at its root. I was surprised when I set up the admin account that I now have appearing as an avatar in the users list.

Could someone tell me how WP is finding that photo? I'm using my standard work email address, but that's it. Where would this come from? It's not coming from WordPress.org as I don't have an avatar registered here. It's not coming from the root installation (which uses the same email) which has no avatar showing.

Would Facebook have anything to do with this -- I was logged in when I installed and the email address used is the same?

I need to know as I plan to add students to the account and privacy is something of an issue.

WordPress uses a third party service called Gravatar for the avatars. So if an avatar is showing up, it is because that email address is associated with a Gravatar.

Thanks -- I see. I worked out how to turn it on and off in other installations too.

    Thanks again.
