   hi,
   a buddy of mine has his kid's baby journal on wordpress for the past few years. he just noticed that some older posts are missing. for example..

   2007 - 8 days missing
   2008 - 64 days missing
   2009 - 88 days missing
   2010 - 13 days missing
   2011 - 1 day missing

   I'm not exactly sure why this happened. I use wb-dbmanager for backups so i took the earliest one (may 31st, 2008) and restored it onto another domain/wordpress and the posts were still missing from the earlier years.

   this couldn't be an issue with plugins or something right? since the restore database on a new wordpress install had no plugins.

   my buddy's pretty upset about this...if someone could give me an idea of why this could've happened....

   Have you tried:

   - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

   - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

   - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

   - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

   hey esmi,

   thanks for the tips. but correct me if i'm wrong...if i took the backup file and uploaded to a different domain/new wordpress install with no plugins except for the wp-dbmanager...then the 'missing' posts would show up right? since there would be no conflict with plugins, themes, and it's a fresh wp install.

   also..if i'm correct...if my friend made a post with attachments and comments...if the post were somehow deleted....the comments would also be deleted BUT the attachment would still be on the server right?

   Have you checked to see if the posts are are still in the wp_posts table in the .sql file?

   my friend blogs once a day (it's like a tradition) and he's missing 12 days in january 2009.

   i compared the posts that are in the sql for let's say january 2009. they matched up with what is showing on the blog.

   is there another method to try?

   and just wanted to confirm this thing..

   If the post aren't in the .sql backup file, then I'm afraid they have been lost.

   if my friend made a post with attachments and comments...if the post were somehow deleted....the comments would also be deleted BUT the attachment would still be on the server right?

   Unless he also deleted them...
