How can I tell how many visitors visit my blog? (11 posts)

I know this may seem like a ridiculous question, but:

How can I tell how many visitors visit my blog?

It seems like everyone else knows this fact about their own blog, but I can see no way to figure it out. I asked a couple of people I know that do blogs, and they both answered, "What do you mean? It's automatic! You just know -- it says right there." Which wasn't very helpful.

I assume there must be a way to figure it out, but try as I might I can't uncover it. Help!

On a related note: if I am eventually planning to have ads on my blog, and if ads pay "per viewer" or whatever, then how do the advertisers know how many people are coming to my site and viewing their ads? And how can I "prove" how many visitors I get?

I've always been mystified by this detail. The amount of "traffic" one gets seems to be universally known by every site, but I'm never been about to understand how they could know. I've even run Web sites before (not blogs -- regular sites) and even then I never knew of a way to get a total of the number of visitors.

    Thanks.

Decent hosts usually offer tools (stats) to see the traffic on your site.
You can also google for different site stats, counter, hit etc. tools.

And don't worry: nobody really pays you just for the fact that an ad is displayed and seen. Advertisers usually pay for clicks or for sales/leads originating from your site - and they have the tools to keep track of it.

Some other tools to look at:

    http://www.google.com/analytics
    http://performancing.com/metrics

    Both free.
Both have you add a bit of javascript to your theme's footer.php file.

Yes, but is there some kind of WordPress "plugin" or sidebar-thingie that will allow me to get a visitor total? Or will I have to rely on my "host" to provide the info? And if I find something via Google, how do I know it will work on WordPress?

Instead of asking, asking, asking... here is the Codex:

That's not very nice, is it?

No, but it's not nice either to "disregard" the request next to the posting area: Before posting a new topic, be sure to search...

Thanks for replying on my other question. But just let you know, I did search. Thanks.

    @ahlife,
Nobody was talking about you or to you. My reply was directed to the OP - and you jumped in. If you don't have anything useful to add, don't post.

Right. I take this advise. But I also see others bump a thread for purpose of attention. But you are right on this one. I will take it. :)

But I also see others bump a thread for purpose of attention.

When I am not around :)
Usually I delete them without saying a word...
