[resolved] How can I retrieve images and reconvert URL into videos? (21 posts)

I migrated my old wp blog to a local host and when I've imported the .xml, all the media (photos, videos) got problems:

    - all the videos are converted into their URL
    - the media library is nearly empty (there are only some images) but the posts display the images as usual.

I checked again my old wp blog and also there the media library is nearly empty but have different images than the new one.

How can I retrieve all the images?
How can I reconvert all the URL into embedded videos?

My old wp blog is http://gearsoftvalue.wordpress.com and the new one is http://www.gearsoftimes.com (I use wp-magazine as theme)

When you created the export file, did you select "All content"? as for the videos, are these YouTube videos or your own uploaded videos?

Yes absolutely, I've done everything necessary to export and import the .xml in the right way

Did you see any messages when carrying out the import? And what about the videos?

the videos doesn't appear anywhere and all pf them have been reconverted to their url. So I can't even see them in the posts.

Check that you have Auto-embeds turned on in Setting -> Media

Try re-embedding one of the YouTube videos.

Then it would appear that there is something wrong with your export file. What plugins are you running in the remote site?

    I have these plugins:

    downML - Download Media Library

    Post Teaser

    SEO Friendly Images

    WordPress Importer

    WordPress SEO by yoast

It's possible that the one (or more) of first 3 plugins may have inserted something into your database that is now causing a malformed .xml export file. You could test if the file is malformed by importing the theme unit test file and seeing if that imports correctly.

Wait wait, I've explained myself wrongly. The old blog is a wp.com blog so I don't have plugins on that. The plugins I've listed are on the new one. So I don't think is about the plugins affecting the xml

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme

before trying the import? Where some of your inserted images actually hotlinks to images on other sites as opposed to being uploaded into your Media Library.

    I haven't tried this, I will.

But how can this be helpful? Could you explain me?

In case your theme and/or plugins are interfering with the import.

Ok so I tried and nothing worked out.

But, rejoice! I found a solution!

    This plugin http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/media-tools
retrieves images from the posts and put it in the media library attaching them to their posts.

    Quite useful and pretty fast.
By the way, thanks a lot esmi for your time. Hope this would be helpful for others with the same problem.
