Ok, I'm suprised this isn't a more discussed topic. How do I prevent indexing of my website until I'm ready to reveal it to the public?
I understand there are plugins that will prevent indexing, but they are quite confusing as to what check box to click and which things I should leave indexing and which I shouldn't.
The concern is that if I turn off all indexing, none of the posts I write prior to turning indexing back on will have been indexed. That's not a good thing. See what I'm saying?
Your post is a unclear...do you want your posts to be crawled by search engines or not?
Have you tried /wp-admin/options-privacy.php?

Or.... http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Privacy_SubPanel
[EDIT] Oops! Sorry about that, jkovis. Same destination, I just took the scenic route!

You can do this with your Settings> Privacy and set your privacy settings to block search engines. When you are ready to accept visitors, you can select the other option to allow search engines to index your site.
Echoing blondishnet, the setting is under "Privacy", no need for plugins.
