How can I move the site from one Server to another? (10 posts)

I created all my back end work on the URL dev.accessbit.com now I want to move the whole site to go to live "www.accessbit.com" to a different web hosting server to host live.

Am I going to lose all the work that I did by using Customizr?
What is the step by step procedure that way I won't lose anything?
I guess I need to move the MySql Database too?

This will help for me also to work all my future projects as well.
    Thank you in advance.

I use a product from Serverpress.com - Desktop Server - which enables me to Direct Deploy from a Dev->Test or Live server. I think it's brilliant, and cost me c£30. If you're only supporting a single site then maybe not worth the investment, but it is one of the best items I've purchased.

Although it feels a little bit scary when you do it for the first time, a manual transfer is not so bad. When I need to, I use Filezilla to FTP transfer the WP files and phpMyAdmin to Export/Import the mySQL database. Remember the Search & Replace step as detailed in the @Rustywood link.

The more you do it, the more you understand about WP.

Thanks for pointing out Desktop Server from Serverpress.com I'll look into that.

Turning off pretty permalinks is also a very crucial step?

    Thanks

I've never had to do that. Don't even understand what it means!

I usually turn on pretty permalinks so the URL is better looking and also helps with SEO.

Thank you all. There are lots of support. I am going to try to do that shortly.

    Question for rdellconsulting

I have downloaded the trial version from Serverpress.com - Desktop Server.

But I can not install it because I am using on the same computer IIS as well. Therefore it says that it needs PORT 80 to install but that port 80 is used by IIS.

So My question is in that case is there any way I can change the PORT something else to install it, let say I do it under PORT 8080?
