[resolved] how can I modify the listings layout? (3 posts)

    I need to modify the listings page layout and also the single listing layout.

    Also, I need to specify how many characters are going to appear on the listings page, because if an user submit an article, it won't show a short description on the listings page, it will show the whole article.

    Where can I start from?

    Hi spikespiegel,

    This is the best place to start here: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/customizing-bd-to-fit-your-theme/

    Also, there's the custom CSS article as well, which is related: How to use custom CSS with Business Directory in a way that doesn't get overwritten on upgrade of BD: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-use-custom-styles-with-bd-2-1/

    For the characters question, which field(s) are you trying to limit? That may require core plugin modifications to handle right now.

    THis is not exactly what I need. I did some hack in the file businessdirectory-excerpt.tpl.php, now the code is like this:

    <?php echo $thumbnail; ?>
    <div  class="listing-details">
    <?php

    echo substr($listing_fields,0, 1000) . "...";
    ?>
    </div>
    <div style="clear:both">
    </div>

    This will display only the first 1000 characters of each listing on the Listings Page.

    That part is ok, what I need now is to edit the single listing page. I don't seem to find out how to edit just the content part, I mean, there is a function called $listing_fields in the file businessdirectory-listing.tpl.php, it displays the full listing, I need to know how to display just the description, how can I do that? I tried:

    echo $listing_fields .= $field->display( $post->ID, 'excerpt' );

    and

    echo $listing_fields .= $field->display( $post->ID, 'listing' );

    But it didn't work.
