I’m struggling to get WordPress installed, just wondering if someone can help me??

I have tried to create the wp-config.php file and hope I have done this correctly but when I upload everything to my site and try to access the install.php page/file I get just a blank page, no error messages.

Then I read in the instructions, “You can either create and edit the wp-config.php file yourself, or you can skip this step and let WordPress try to do this itself when you run the installation script (step 5) (you’ll still need to tell WordPress your database information).”

OK, so I deleted the wp-config.php file on the server and tried accessing the install.php page again to see if the wp-config.php file would create itself. Still a blank page.

Do I need to create a wp-config.php file or not? If I do, how can I check if it’s correct?? Apart from oh, it’s giving me a blank page therefore it must be wrong – I am not sure where/why it would be wrong.

    TIA for any advice …

  • Usually if there is something wrong with wp-config.php you will see a message or error.

A blank screen during install means you didn’t get a complete and intact set of WordPress files uploaded to your host. I’d consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then use something like 7-Zip to extract the files. Then reupload the files to your host. Review Uploading WordPress to a remote host and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

If you have an .htaccess file, that too could be causing the problem–rename that if necessary.
