How can I integrate functionality akin to StackOverflow on my blog?

I've seen many open-source alternatives to StackOverflow, but none of them have complete compatibility with WordPress.

Please recommend a plugin which gives StackOverflow type functionality to my WordPress blog.

    Thanks,

    Samuel

So far the two best bets I've seen are Vanilla Forums with the Voting Plugin and Question2Answer with manually coded single sign on.

    Vanilla Forums: vanillaforums.org
    Vanilla Forums Plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vanilla-forums/
    Voting Plugin: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/voting-plugin

    Question2Answer: question2answer.org
    Question2Answer WordPress Integration: http://www.question2answer.org/qa/428/how-can-i-integrate-it-with-wordpress#c1623

I'm still researching this though. Let me know what you find as well!

You could also give the brand new Q&A plugin a try, made to work like StackOverflow, Quora and Yahoo Answers.

Yeh, we'd live to know what you think about our new questions and answers plugin - it's been very much inspired by stack overflow!

Thanks, from the screenshots it looks great!

Unfortunately, the auto-download didn't work, so I uploaded the qa.zip that I downloaded.

    Now it won't install :\

    (WordPress 3.1.2)

Stuck on the "Unpacking the packageā€¦"

    Maybe it'll work sometime soon?

Not shown in your screenshots are how answers are treated...

    Can you comment on questions/answers?

When you reply to a question is it threaded (like reddit) or all at the same level of indentation (like StackOverflow)?

Also, are can the list of tags be shown in a sidebar? (like on this site, StackOverflow &etc)

    Hi Samuel,

It unpacks great in Winrar for me.

Have a look at our WordPress Q&A site to see how it currently works - we're looking to add in comments, threading etc. into teh next version.

Tags can be shown in the sidebar no trouble.

    Cheers, James

    I see!

    Looking good =]

Is there a way to show the number of appearances of a particular tag? (like on reddit, StackOverflow, Quora &etc)

Have you ever used the automated plugin-installer for WordPress on it?

I'm an old fashioned FTP installer - although it should work via auto too.

The more tags used, the larger they are, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to edit the widget to show the actual number of uses of the tag.

    Great, it's working now.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't integrate with my theme... http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/adventure-journal

What are the problems, we're working on making it better integrate with all themes so if you can post a link we'll check it out and see what we can do.

Can you send to contact@incsub.com and cite this thread? That'd work much better as it'll get to the devs quicker!

    Hi All,

I've a problem with Q&A Lite on my website. When there are no unanswered questions, if you click on "unanswered button", it gives a 404 page error.

will you patch this issue with the next release of Q&A ?

    many thanks,
    best regard
    valkim

@Samuel Marks, I tried out the plugin with that theme and can see the display issue, though it's something easily overcome by customizing the plugin for use with the theme by copying the included template files from qa\default-templates to your theme's folder, where you can alter as needed while keeping safe from upgrades overwriting the changes.

@yguez, let us know how that goes, would love to see it!

    @valkim, it's being looked into. :)

David: Okay, I'll give that a go.

Quick follow-up question: Can you integrate that into the installer for your next version?

@Samuel Marks, sorry for the delay, we are working at getting the plugin working smoothly and easily with all themes. It's in the works. :)

Thanks, tell me when it's ready.

In other news, I've been looking at Drupal, which has a dedicated theme development support channel, so I think I'll be moving to Drupal. Will you be releasing a Drupal version?

We don't have plans to release a Drupal version I'm afraid. But I'll definitely keep you posted on the updates.
